Before an ADHD assessment can be booked, we require a referral from your regular treating GP detailing your symptoms and medical history. This allows our clinical team to review your history and determine whether our GP-based ADHD assessment service is appropriate for you. Please also be aware that in Western Australia GP stimulant prescribers are only able to treat patients who are 10 years old and over.
If you do not have a regular GP, appointments are available with GPs at Skye Medical who can assess your situation and, where appropriate, provide an internal referral.

Once received, your referral will be clinically triaged. We will then contact you to let you know whether you can proceed with an assessment through our service. We are happy to receive copies of referrals previously sent to psychiatrists so long as there haven’t been any changes to your situation.
If your referral is accepted, the assessment pathway usually involves:
Initial Assessment — $600 (Medicare rebate = $207.90)
Approximately 90 minutes, including nurse assistance with questionnaires followed by a comprehensive assessment with Dr Lewis MacKinnon.
Follow-Up / Diagnosis & Treatment Appointment — $300 (Medicare rebate = $128.35)
Approximately 45–60 minutes to review the assessment findings, discuss diagnosis and treatment options, and prescribing where clinically appropriate.
Total typical assessment pathway: $900
Approximate total out-of-pocket cost: $563.75
Medicare rebates are subject to individual eligibility and may vary depending on your circumstances. Patients with complex mental health conditions or limited collateral information from the referrer may not be suitable for a GP-led assessment process or may require an increased number of visits to assess comprehensively and safely which may increase costs. This will be discussed with you on a case-by-case basis where relevant.

Booking an ADHD assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis of ADHD.
The purpose of the assessment is to carefully consider your symptoms, history and other relevant information and determine whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.
The assessment fees relate to the clinical time and assessment process, rather than the outcome. Fees therefore remain payable regardless of whether an ADHD diagnosis is ultimately made or medication is prescribed.
In some circumstances, our clinical team may also recommend further assessment or management by a psychiatrist or another specialist. You also may be diagnosed with ADHD, but unsuitable for stimulant medication depending on other co-existing medical or psychiatric conditions. A range of treatment options will be discussed with you.
Some people will continue to require care from a psychiatrist, paediatrician or multidisciplinary team.
